EPA's New Planning Approach to Improving Your Water

Almost every municipality and utility is faced with a myriad of clean water programs that must ultimately be implemented and many of which come with significant capital and operational costs.  The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is attempting to aid the regulated community in addressing this dilemma through the Integrated Municipal Stormwater and Wastewater Initiative to assist NPDES permit holders in achieving compliance with state and federal clean water requirements.  The EPA Office of Water and Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance are currently developing a framework for these program integration initiatives that will identify:

1) The essential components of an integrated plan,

2) Steps for identifying municipalities that might make best use of such an approach; and

3) How to best implement the plans with our state partners under the CSA permit and enforcement programs.
